Upland and Decentraland have joined forces to bring the world-famous Brazilian Carnival to the metaverse. The festival, which runs from February 17 to 25, will be available for thousands of visitors worldwide to enjoy in three different locations: Salvador, São Paulo, and Rio de Janeiro. The collaboration represents a significant milestone in Web3 history, bringing us closer to a future where the virtual and physical worlds are interoperable.
Upland, a metaverse platform that allows users to create their experiences inspired by real-world locations, has added various festival locations to its map. Users can explore the Carnival agenda, participate in immersive experiences, and purchase carnival costumes, among other things. Upland’s API, which consolidates its position as the metaverse super-app, enables users, brands, and partners to build their experiences on top of the Upland map.
Decentraland, a virtual world built on the Ethereum blockchain, will host parties exclusive to the Brazilian Carnival. Guests can dance with their avatars, dress in Carnival costumes, and experiment with the newly launched emojis inspired by samba movements. Digital influencers will join the Decentraland Carnival parties and spend time with visitors at the Dollhouse party venue.
Upland’s Co-CEO and Co-founder Dirk Lueth stated that this collaboration between Upland and Decentraland is pointing the way to go for web3 builders and enthusiasts. The two companies’ partnership is an early example of a future where major cultural moments like Carnival can fuel enrichment in a user’s digital life. Upland, committed to being carbon-negative, was named among Fast Company’s “Next Big Things in Tech” in 2021 and one of “22 San Francisco Startups To Watch in 2022” by Built In SF. On the other hand, Decentraland is overseen by the nonprofit Decentraland Foundation and has been open to the public since February 2020.
