Titanic artifacts becoming NFTs

A new partnership leveraging blockchain technology has been formed to tokenize real-world artifacts from the famous Titanic wreckage into non-fungible tokens (NFTs). RMS Titanic (RMST), in collaboration with Hong Kong’s Venture Smart Financial Holdings and Artifact Labs, will tokenize select artifacts from the sunken vessel to make them accessible to the general public. RMST has exclusive rights to recover artifacts from the Titanic, and this partnership aims to facilitate “compliant capital raising” to finance ongoing research, recovery, preservation, exhibition, and licensing of RMST’s assets.

Venture Smart Financial Holdings will structure the tokenization of the intellectual property associated with the artifacts, intending to offer tokenized instruments to accredited investors. The process will allow for interactive digital engagement with RMST content, providing access to VIP events, exhibitions, seminars with historians, and unique opportunities. Artifact Labs, with its in-house NFT blockchain technology, will create NFTs for the 5,500 recovered artifacts from the Titanic, as well as future artifacts retrieved from the wreckage.

The initiative’s goal is to preserve the Titanic’s history and artifacts using digital technologies such as blockchain and NFTs. The Titanic DAO (decentralized autonomous organization) will be created by Artifact Labs to enable members to participate in diverse initiatives and exhibition proposals for the Titanic site. Members of the DAO will use governance tokens to run the Titanic DAO’s treasury, and NFT sales will pay for it.

The DAO will also facilitate the creation of educational programs, digital content, documentaries, research, partnerships, and events. Members will have a say in how artifacts are kept and shown, ensuring that future generations can access them. In a statement, RMST President Jessica Sanders expressed her determination to preserve the Titanic’s artifacts, stating that the digital space would enable broader audience access to quality programming that educates and inspires.
