In an exciting development, Kyushu Railway Company (J.R. Kyushu), a crucial part of Japan Railway Group, the largest rail network in Japan, has announced its intention to launch NFTs on the Astar Network. This initiative is a result of collaboration between J.R. Kyushu and P.R.O. Co., Ltd.
The primary objective of J.R. Kyushu’s NFT project is to create new avenues for interaction with their customers while strengthening their existing relationships. By incorporating NFT technology, they aim to offer innovative ways for passengers to appreciate Kyushu and keep a comprehensive record of their travel experiences.
The J.R. Kyushu NFT project will commence in July 2023, presenting passengers with unique opportunities to engage with Kyushu while capturing lasting memories of their journeys. As a testament to their commitment, J.R. Kyushu and PRO will distribute a free NFT featuring the new Nishi Kyushu Shinkansen during the Blockchain Expo in Tokyo from May 10th to 12th.
With a wide range of services that go beyond rail transportation, such as intercity rail, freight services, bus transportation, and hospitality, J.R. Kyushu serves over 330 million people annually on Kyushu, the third-largest island in Japan.
This collaboration between J.R. Kyushu and Astar Network will introduce a unique and practical application of NFTs in Japan. While NFTs are commonly associated with trading and digital art, J.R. Kyushu aims to leverage this technology to offer visitors tangible souvenirs and evidence of their journeys on their expansive network.
Sota Watanabe, the Founder of Astar Network, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “At Astar Network, we are thrilled to witness more real-life use cases where businesses explore and utilize NFTs to forge closer connections with their customers and deliver new value. We eagerly anticipate supporting PRO Japan and J.R. Kyushu in their endeavor.”
J.R. Kyushu has chosen the Astar Network as its preferred blockchain platform for this project. Being Japan’s first public blockchain, Astar Network offers competitive fees, impressive scalability, and an extensive understanding of the Japanese market. Astar Network is leading the NFT revolution in Japan, with several top brands recognizing the potential of Web3 and embracing its possibilities.
Notably, renowned Japanese corporations like Toyota Motor Corporation and Sony Network Communications have already partnered with Astar Network to explore the opportunities presented by Web3.
When the project launches in July, passengers will have the opportunity to acquire commemorative NFTs or earn them by utilizing the railway system. Possessing specific NFTs may entitle passengers to additional benefits and exclusive access to other NFTs. Purchasing NFTs will be facilitated using the Japanese yen.
Astar Network, recognized by the Japanese Blockchain Association as Japan’s most popular blockchain, has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first public blockchain from the country to be listed despite Japan’s strict regulations. The Japanese government classifies Astar Network’s native token, ASTR, as a cryptocurrency rather than a security.
