The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) is launching a fun and interactive digital art project called “MoMA Postcard.” In this project, people can create digital art on the blockchain by sending digital chain letters with special stamps to their friends.
Here’s how it works: When you send a chain letter, you start with a blank digital “postcard” with 15 empty “stamps.” You and your 14 friends take turns filling in these stamps with art related to a specific theme. As each person adds their art, the postcard becomes a collaborative artwork.

To begin this project, MoMA invited 15 digital artists to create the first set of postcards. Each artist had a different theme for their postcard. For example, one artist asked participants to create stamps representing the number of hearts they’ve broken, using only black pixels and numbers. Another artist simply asked for a pixelated goose.
This project aims to introduce people to NFTs (non-fungible tokens) and blockchain technology in a fun and creative way. The NFTs created through this project are based on the Tezos blockchain.

MoMA is not the only art institution getting involved with blockchain and NFTs. Other museums, like the Musée d’Orsay and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), are also exploring how blockchain technology can be used to engage with art and artists.
In simple terms, MoMA is letting people create digital art together on the internet using a special kind of technology called blockchain. It’s like sending a digital art puzzle to your friends, and each of you adds a piece until it’s complete. This is a fun way to learn about NFTs and digital art.
