Trump knows how to play web3, now we have mugshots

In a creative marketing move, Donald Trump has turned a recent legal challenge into his third batch of NFTs, named the “Mugshot Edition.” Released on CollectTrumpCards.com, these digital trading cards, priced at $99 each, offer a rare opportunity to own a segment of the suit he wore during his arrest in Fulton County, Georgia, on August 24, the day his infamous mugshot was taken.

Trump, referring to himself as “your favorite president” in a promotional video, emphasizes the unique perks of these digital collectibles, including the exaggerated artwork enhancing his physical attributes. The NFTs feature a mugshot of Trump and a fragment of his suit, with 100,000 cards available. Buyers who purchase 47 or more cards in one transaction will receive one of the 2,024 limited edition physical cards.

These Mugshot trading cards also come with additional incentives, such as a dinner invitation with Trump at Mar-a-Lago. Twenty-five assets will be hand-signed by Trump at random. The first 200 buyers purchasing 100 cards with cryptocurrency receive an exclusive offer, including a distinctive NFT, two tickets to a cocktail reception with Trump, a second physical card containing pieces of both Trump’s suit and tie, and two “Commemorative Dinner” cards.

This venture marks Trump’s third foray into the NFT market. His debut collection in December 2022 sold out rapidly but saw a significant drop in secondary market sales value. The second collection, launched in April 2023, generated around $4.6 million in sales but also faced a decline in value. Despite criticisms and fluctuations, both collections sold out at $99 per card. The new Mugshot editions come with a twist, as they cannot be transferred until December 31, giving collectors time before the market determines their actual worth.
