A crypto collective specializing in culturally significant items, PleasrDAO, has unveiled its latest NFT release featuring the unique Wu-Tang Clan album Once Upon a Time in Shaolin. This album will be gradually made available to NFT holders over time, offering a unique experience.
The Wu-Tang Clan produced a single physical copy of the album, encased in a silver and nickel box, treating it as a rare art piece. It was never released digitally or made available for streaming. PleasrDAO acquired the album for $4.75 million through an auction after the U.S. government seized it following Martin Shkreli’s fraud conviction.
Starting today, secure, blockchain-based versions of the album are available for $1 each on a designated site. Hosted on Base, an Ethereum layer-2 platform by Coinbase, these NFTs advance the 2103 decryption date by 88 seconds per purchase. Privy, Crossmint, and Holograph oversee the allocation, and buyers receive a new crypto wallet for storage.
In addition to the NFT sale, the album will be showcased at MONA in Australia from June 15-24, marking its first public playing. Purchasing an NFT grants access to an album sampler and advances the full release date. The official release of the entire album is set for October 8, 2103. This initiative aims to bring blockchain technology to hip-hop fans and the cultural mainstream.
