Siemens Pledges €1 Billion Investment to Establish Industrial Metaverse Hub

Siemens, a global technology company, is making a substantial investment of €1 billion in Germany to establish the Erlangen location as a leading research and development hub for the industrial metaverse. The company is committed to its announced €2 billion investment strategy, with a significant portion allocated to advancing Germany’s innovation capabilities in the industrial metaverse.

The industrial metaverse is a virtual environment that replicates real-world industrial operations. It provides a realistic and physics-based representation of manufacturing processes, enabling the creation of digital twins for factories and equipment. By integrating artificial intelligence and real-time data, the industrial metaverse enhances manufacturing capabilities, making them more sustainable and adaptable.

In the presence of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Siemens unveiled its plans to establish a new Technology Campus in Erlangen. With an investment of approximately €500 million, Siemens aims to transform Erlangen into a global research and development hub for the industrial metaverse. This strategic initiative will drive innovation, strengthen Siemens’ resilience, and fuel growth.

The investment in Erlangen is part of Siemens’ broader global investment strategy, which focuses on expanding manufacturing capacities, establishing innovation labs, and creating education centers. The company’s commitment to the Nuremberg metropolitan region is evident in this strategy. The Erlangen location, currently employing 3,500 individuals, is already known for its world-class factory producing industrial automation and digitalization products. With this new investment, Siemens aims to establish a blueprint for the industrial metaverse, revolutionizing high-tech manufacturing to be more sustainable and adaptable to market changes.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz sees this investment as a testament to Germany’s position as an innovative and sustainable production location. Roland Busch, President and CEO of Siemens AG, emphasizes the company’s focus on innovation and digitalization, stating that they are combining the real and digital worlds in the Nuremberg metropolitan region. The upcoming Technology Campus in Erlangen will drive the industrial metaverse forward, paving the way for the future of high-tech manufacturing and sustainable industry practices.
