OpenUSD Alliance: Pioneering 3D Interoperability for the Future Metaverse

Tech giants Apple, Nvidia, Pixar, Adobe, and Autodesk have collaboratively established the OpenUSD Alliance (AOUSD). While not explicitly mentioning the “metaverse” during the launch, their focus is on a crucial aspect of the open metaverse – interoperability among 3D tools and data. OpenUSD, a data format created by Pixar Animation Studios, facilitates large-scale 3D collaboration, allowing sharing of information about 3D elements for projects in Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR). The alliance will outline written specifications outlining OpenUSD features.

The allure of creating metaverse environments akin to those depicted in “Ready Player One” and “The Three-Body Problem” has persisted for some time. Traditional industry giants recognize the burgeoning potential of the metaverse and are keen on setting 3D graphics standards to capitalize on its future popularity. Presently, the focus is on transitioning from reality to the virtual realm. However, could the operation be reversed – bringing virtual elements into the real world? Technologies like mature holographic projection and AI-assisted actions, coupled with affordable and lightweight XR devices, hold promise. As the integration of AI, IoT, Blockchain, 5/6G, and Computing matures within the Laleverse platform, it raises intriguing questions about its implications. (SDChain report)

SixDomainChain (SDChain) stands as the world’s pioneering decentralized public blockchain ecosystem, combining IoT’s international Six-Domain Model standards with reference architecture standards for distributed blockchain.
