Simpsons-Themed NFTs Skyrocket in Popularity After TV Episode Roasts NFTs

In the wake of a recent “The Simpsons” episode ridiculing NFTs, unofficial “Springfield Punks” NFTs gained rapid popularity, generating nearly $2.5 million in less than 24 hours and becoming the top trending collection on OpenSea. This unique collection combines the aesthetics of CryptoPunks with elements from “The Simpsons.” Launched as a free mint, it swiftly sold out with traders buying up the 3,405 Ethereum NFTs.

This Simpsons-inspired NFT project, created by parody artist Rino Russo, has already seen a trading volume exceeding 1,311 ETH (over $2.4 million). At the time of this writing, Springfield Punks NFTs are available on the secondary market starting at approximately 0.11 ETH (around $200). The project’s trading volume ranks it third in daily volume behind the Bored Ape Yacht Club and CryptoPunks.

Multiple other NFT collections influenced by “The Simpsons” made their presence known on OpenSea, including “SimpsPunks,” “The Chimpsons Official,” and “Springfield Apes by Rino Russo.” These NFTs feature a range of “Simpsons”-inspired imagery combined with various PFP (profile picture) NFT elements.

While “The Simpsons” recently lampooned NFTs in a TV episode, it’s worth noting that the show itself has previously released officially licensed NFTs in collaboration with Disney and VeVe, featuring characters such as Bart and Homer. These NFTs proved popular with fans, selling out for $60 each in November 2021.

Overall, this trend highlights the growing influence and appeal of NFTs, even as they become subjects of satire in mainstream media.

Stay tuned as “The Simpsons” and other creative endeavors continue to explore the NFT space in various ways.
