Yuga Labs, the creators of Bored Ape Yacht Club, have introduced a new wrapper for the CryptoPunks collection called CryptoPunks721. Utilizing Larva Labs’ PunksData smart contract, this wrapper simplifies and streamlines the trading process for CryptoPunks.

The CryptoPunks721 wrapper operates without the need for permissions and facilitates the wrapping and unwrapping of CryptoPunks in a single transaction, resulting in reduced gas fees. CryptoPunks, created by Larva Labs in 2017 before the widespread adoption of the ERC-721 standard, require wrapping before being listed on major marketplaces. The conventional wrapping process involves multiple transactions, each incurring gas fees.

The new wrapper minimizes these transactions, leading to lower total gas fees. Additionally, it comes with an official user-friendly interface, marking a significant improvement for the CryptoPunks collection.

According to reports, the CryptoPunks721 wrapper is the initial step in a series of quality-of-life enhancements planned for the CryptoPunks collection. The objective is to allow ongoing evolution, with discussions about various ideas generated internally and from the community. CryptoPunks consists of 10,000 pixel-art characters on the Ethereum blockchain, first minted in 2017 and later acquired by Yuga Labs in March 2022.
