In a groundbreaking move, Starbucks Korea is set to issue NFTs on the Polygon blockchain starting in January 2024. This innovative initiative is part of Starbucks Korea’s ongoing efforts to encourage customers to use reusable cups. The NFTs will be linked to Starbucks’ eco-friendly incentive program, where customers earn “eco-stamps” by purchasing eligible drinks using reusable cups. These eco-stamps can then be exchanged for exclusive NFTs.
The limited-edition Starbucks NFTs are the result of a collaboration with South Korean art platform Print Bakery and renowned NFT artist DADAZ. To complement the NFT launch, Starbucks will host an in-store exhibition at its Starbucks Reserve location in Jongno-gu, Seoul. This exhibition will not only showcase the unique NFTs but also underscore Starbucks’ commitment to sustainability.

Already offering complimentary beverage vouchers to customers who purchase reusable cups, Starbucks Korea is aligning these incentives with its broader green campaign. The vouchers, now named ‘Eco Tumbler Beverage Coupons,’ will run parallel to the introduction of NFT rewards, reinforcing Starbucks’ dedication to environmentally conscious practices. This pioneering move by Starbucks Korea represents a significant integration of blockchain technology and NFTs into a mainstream consumer loyalty program, further blurring the lines between traditional and digital incentives.
