NFTs getting political – Massive anti-covid protests in China, pictures put on nfts and for sale on Opensea

The largest NFT market, OpenSea, is now selling China protests against the zero-Covid regulation.

In an auction that started on Sunday and lasted seven days, a Polygon-based NFT collection of 135 photographs titled “Silent Speech” depicts the protests with an opening bid of 0.01 ETH (US$11.74).

A different NFT collection called Blank Paper Movement is made up of 24 stylized images, most of which show protesters clutching blank pieces of paper to denote the suppression of free speech. The minimum price for Ethereum-based NFTs was 10 ether ($11,720) as of 3:00 p.m. Hong Kong time on Monday.

Following a tragic fire on Thursday, protests broke out in Urumqi, the capital of China’s northwest province Xinjiang. Residents flocked to the streets and the internet to voice their displeasure and concerns about zero-Covid lockdowns. The local government’s claim that the victims’ inability to save themselves led to the tragedy increased the protests.
